OPERATORS of watercrafts that convey passengers are now obliged to be equipped with life-saving devices, particularly life vests.

PO1  Valeriano Bueno, detachment  commander of the Philippine Coast Guard based  at  Bonuan Gueset, said they had  intensified  their campaign for compliance  with the requirement to ensure the safety of passengers of any watercraft.

He said that it is now compulsory for motor boats to be equipped with these devices to ensure not only the safety of the operators but the passengers as well.

As directed by his headquarters, he said, he will deploy teams to inspect and monitor  the daily  operations of  the motorized banca operators to make certain that the life- saving devices are in  place before departing from their ports  of origin to their destinations.

Bueno appealed to operators of passenger motorized bancas to cooperate and not begrudge his office for his strict enforcement.

He assured the operators that the new requirement will be imposed on all uniformly. – APE
