Toyo Construction ready to build bridge

Work on the new Pantal bridge can be expected to start soon.

The Toyo Construction has already mobilized its personnel and equipment to proceed to Dagupan City preparatory to building the P903 million new Pantal Bridge, according to Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Director Fidel Ginez.

Speaking during a “Kapihan Forum“, sponsored by PATRIMA, Ginez said Toyo has already set up a temporary office in a building in barangay Tapuac near Lyceum-Northwestern University.

He said DPWH is also setting up a field office near the vicinity for its engineers to be able to monitor the progress of work on the project regularly.

The funding for the bridge was worked out by Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. with the Japanese government through Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).

Ginez said the bridge is part of the Package 3 of the Urgent Bridges Reconstruction for Rural Development and is one of the 63 bridges in the Philippines under contract with Toyo Construction.

Toyo Construction actually received its notice to proceed from the DPWH as early as May 29, 2006 but only mobilized this month.

Once completed, the bridge will link barangays Pantal to Lucao, creating a new highway that will skirt the present bottleneck experienced on A.B. Fernandez Avenue in Dagupan City.

Measuring 355 linear meters with 180-meter approach on the Lucao side and 240-meter approach on the Dawel side, the bridge is expected to be completed within 22 months.

At the same time, Ginez announced that his office already received an initial P20 million to start the concreting of the  Dawel-Pantal-Lucao road, needing another P20 million more in order to complete the project.

He said that his office has already completed acquiring the needed road right of way for the new road, except one or two properties in the Lucao side.
