Usec. Villar vows zeal versus illegal drugs
A “NO sacred cows” policy.
This will continue to be the guiding principle of Undersecretary and former Sto. Tomas Mayor Antonio Villar Jr. as he takes on a third appointed post as chair of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB).
Villar is concurrently head of the Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group (PASG) and director of Task Force Subic.
Villar, appointed DDB chair to replace Vicente Sotto who is eyeing a comeback bid for senator in the 2010 elections, told The PUNCH that among the top items in his agenda is looking into the so-called “narco-politics” wherein money made from the trade of illegal drugs is used to fund campaign and other election-related activities.
In April 2008, the PASG under Villar led a multi-billion drug bust at the Subic Bay Freeport zone wherein more than 700 kilos of the banned drug metamphetamine hydrochloride, locally called shabu, estimated to be worth around P4.2-billionwere seized.
As mayor of Sto Tomas town, Villar also implemented an aggressive campaign against illegal drugs.
Villar said he does have to make some major adjustments in his schedule but handling the three positions would be manageable.#
