Maritime cops nab dynamite-blast fisherman
The intensified campaign of the PNP Maritime Police against blast fishing bore fruit when they apprehended a suspected blast fisher Thursday along the shores of Bonuan Binloc.
The suspect, identified as Nelson Querol, 38, was in possession of 10 kilos of assorted fish believed to have been caught by means of blast fishing.
He was apprehended by Chief Inspector Baltazar Rivera, commander of the Maritime station at Tondaligan Park while the suspect was fishing in an area of the Lingayen Gulf about 300 meters away from the shoreline in sitio Palatong, Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City.
A close examination conducted by the maritime police on the fish in the possession of Querol showed that they were caught through blast fishing known locally as “bongbong”.
A case for violation of Section 18 of Republic Act 8550 is now being prepared against the Querol.
Meanwhile six volunteer life savers were recommended by Tondaligan Park Administrator Dino Zabala to be given commendation for saving lives of beachgoers a few weeks ago.
Those recommended for commendations are Mao Ocuaman, Vicente Quento Jr., Manny Gonzales, Rolly Ballana, Elpidio Patras and Manuel Fabia.
The six lifesavers responded quickly that resulted in the saving of the lives of Rodel Mendoza, 20, of Bonuan Boquig, Dagupan City; Alfie Angelo, 11; Ann Gayo, 12, and Jilian Villanueva, 14, all of Malued, Dagupan City; and Rany Melchor of Nueva Ecija. – APE
