Development of 6th District as gov’t center eyed
ROSALES—Moves are afoot to make the sixth district of Pangasinan not only as an investment haven but as the next national government center in the region.
Rep. Conrado Estrella III expressed his bullish outlook in an interview with The PUNCH notwithstanding the recent submersion of most of Rosales town at the height of the Typhoon Pepeng.
He cited the efforts of SM City Rosales to immediately restore its operations after its facilities suffered heavy damage and losses.
He also pointed to Goldilocks’ continued plans to construct its huge commissary building here to service its market outlets Northern Luzon.
Estrella and Rosales Mayor Ricardo Revita recently brought the investors to the San Roque Dam for a dialogue with officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways and the National Power Corporation for a debriefing on the cause of the unprecedented inundation that wreaked havoc in the district.
Now that it’s business as usual in the district, the congressman said he’s focusing on a legacy transforming the district into a major government center.
Home for the homeless
Meanwhile, a three-hectare lot in Barangay Palakipak is being prepared by Estrella as a resettlement area for victims of Typhoon Pepeng.
Estrella said groundbreaking ceremonies for project made possible with the help of the Swiss government and the Habitat Foundation will be held in February.
About 250 families whose houses were severely damaged by the flood will have their new homes by providing their “sweat equity”.
San Roque Power Corporation has also committed to help develop the site.—#
