DOCTOR Jamie Eloise Agbayani, wife of 2nd District Rep. Victor Agbayani, has changed her mind about running for her husband’s position in the May 2010 election.

Agbayani withdrew her candidacy for the 2nd district congressional seat last week, one hour before the deadline for substitution of candidates.

She was substituted by lawyer Arthel Caronongan, an assistant secretary of the Department of Justice who previously served as provin cial board member as well as a former assistant commissioner at the Bureau of Immigration.

Agbayani said she decided to retreat from her political bid to help focus on the candidacy of her husband who is running for governor, a position he previously held for three terms.

Caronongan said Rep. Agbayani invited him to substitute for Mrs. Agbayani in the congressional race under the Liberal Party last Dec 12.

“Congressman Victor is oozing with charm. So I acceded to his request just this morning,” Caronongan said.

He also denied reports that fielding Mrs. Agbayani first and has him later as a substitute candidate was merely a ploy of the Agbayanis.

Rep. Agbayani will be up against Gov. Amado Espino Jr. who is seeking re-election for a second term.#
