GINA DE V’s PROJECT

SAN FABIAN–Residents of Barangay Binday here thanked 4th District Rep. Gina de Venecia for acting on their request for protective slope and spur dike at the Binday River, which has effectively prevented flooding during the recent rains.

The protective slope and spur dike, costing P45 million, were completed in June this year, just in time for this year’s rainy season.

Residents said with the projects, they experienced no flood and erosion for the first time in many years during the onslaught of the enhanced monsoon rains during the first week of August.

De Venecia, who was in town Thursday as guest of honor and speaker during the 11th anniversary of the Pangasinan Council of Women, Inc. (PCWI) San Fabian chapter headed by Mayor Irene Libunao, recalled that during Typhoon “Pepeng” in October 2009, at least 50 hectares of fertile farms and 29 houses were eroded and eaten away by the river.

De Venecia consulted with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for possible solutions to avoid a repeat of the disaster.
