Manhunt on for ex-cop turned gun-for-hire
SAN FABIAN—A former policeman who has allegedly turned gun-for-hire is now being hunted by police elements here for the murder of a 52-year old man on Aug. 19 in Barangay Cayanga.
The victim, Alberto Castro, married and a resident of Cayanga, was reportedly shot dead by the suspect, Rommel Fortuno Tamayo, 36, married, a former member of the Manila Police District.
The suspect shot the victim several times with a caliber 9 mm pistol.
Investigators recovered four empty shells and four deformed slugs of caliber 9 mm from the crime scene.
The suspect also fired one shot at the daughter of the victim, Caroline Castro, single, of legal age, who was then sitting on a shanty along the road but he missed.
Tamayo then fled riding his black motorcycle without plate number.
A report from the police provincial command indicates the suspect also has a pending murder case in Metro Manila, which caused his dismissal from the police service.
He is also one of the two suspects in a shooting incident in Dagupan City on March 20 this year. His victims were PO2 Fernando Romero Jr, member of the San Fabian Police Station, and William Nabua of Barangay Longos Proper also of San Fabian.
Tamayo is being monitored for his alleged involvement in a notorious gun-for-hire group operating in different places in the province. –Eva Visperas
