Capitol celebrates Policy Research Month
LINGAYEN–The provincial government joins the nation in celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) held every September.
Lolita B. Quiros, Statistician II of the Provincial Planning and Development Office, said preparations are now being made to ensure the success of the activity.
Quiros said the PPDO has coordinated with the Provincial Information Office for the preparation of a banner to be placed in a strategic place within the premises of the provincial government to inform the people of the event containing this year’s DPRM theme “Regional Economic Integration and Inclusive Growth: Engaging Nations, Embracing People.”
She said the theme underscores the importance of regional economic integration in achieving higher and inclusive economic growth for the region as well as for the entire country.
Josef T. Yap, president of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), said the observance of DPRM is one effective means of promoting and drawing nationwide awareness of the importance of policy research in national development.
Since its inception in 2002, Yap said DPRM has played an important role in improving public understanding of various socio-economic policy issues and concepts through broad-based discussions and interactions with different stakeholders and sectors.
According to PIDS, regional economic communities worldwide have generated more trade and increased job opportunities and incomes, thereby improving people’s living conditions.
Yap said the Association of Southeast Asian Nations likewise envisions deepening economic integration among its member-states by instituting a unified regional economic system by 2015.
As lead agency in DPRM annual observance, PIDS has called on the participating agencies and institutions to post uniform streamers within the institution’s premises containing the DPRM theme.
For its part, the PIDS will organize a number of discussion-fora as part of the activities for the month-long celebration of DPRM. (PIO/Angeline D. Villanueva)
