SETTLING POLITICAL DOMINANCE

THE ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD continues to hold sway in Pangasinan but the Liberal Party is gearing itself to steal the show in the provincial election.

With the alliance forged with local Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) and Biskeg  na Pangasinan, Lakas-Kampi-CMD is eyeing to dominate the district elections.

In the race for the province’s top positions, Lakas-Kampi-CMD’s re-electionist Governor Amado Espino Jr. and running mate Mapandan Mayor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim will square off with the Liberal Party tandem of 2nd District Rep. Victor Agbayani, a come-backing governor, and former Vice Governor Oscar Lambino.

Biskeg is backing Espino, one of its original members.

The congressional candidates of Lakas-Kampi-CMD are: former Bolinao Mayor Jesus Celeste (1st), General Leopoldo Bataoil, (2nd), Rep. Rachel Arenas (3rd), Environment and Natural Resources Undersecretary Eleazar Quinto (4th), and Presidential Management Staff Secretary Hermogenes Esperon (6th).

The Nacionalista Party did not field any candidate.

ALLIANCE WITH NPC

Lakas-Kampi-CMD has no candidate in the fifth district where Sison Mayor Carmen “Kimi” Cojuangco, running to replace her husband Rep. Mark Cojuangco, the son of NPC founder and businessman Eduardo Cojuangco.

However, while Rep. Cojuangco has categorically stated that NPC is backing the reelection bid of Espino, NPC has fielded congressional candidates who will be running against Lakas-Kampi-CMD bets. These include Georgina de Venecia in the 4th district, Kim Lokin in the 2nd, and Vice Governor Marlyn Primicias-Agabas in the 6th.

NPC has adopted Arenas in the 3rd and Makibaka Pulido in the 1st where she is the lone congressional candidate under the Puwersa ng Masa.

LIBERAL PARTY

The LP congressional candidates are Board Member Danilo Dizon (1st), Dr. Jamie Eloise Agbayani (2nd); and Galant Soriano (3rd).

LP did not field congressional candidates in the rest of the districts.

The two LP candidates for board member in the 6th district are former vice governor Ranjit Ramos Shahani and Karlos Zaragoza of Tayug..—LM
