SM City Rosales opening, a tribute to Rosales folk
ROSALES–The reopening of SM City Rosales is a tribute to the never-say-die attitude of the people of Rosales, one of the worst hit towns during the flooding in early October.
During the reopening program last week, SM Prime Holding president Hans Sy said the company, which owns the SM chain of malls around the country, sped up the reopening of the Rosales branch so that employees who depend on it for their livelihood can go back to their work immediately.
Mayor Ricardo Revita hailed SM’s effort to reopen in 45 days after the calamity as a testament to the company’s commitment to helping the town’s economy.
The reopening featured a photo exhibit showcasing SM’s rescue, relief and recovery efforts during and after the flood.
Employees narrated their experiences during the typhoon, including the five security guards who were cited for their courage when they rescued a man desperately holding on to a pole to save himself from rampaging floodwaters.
The reopening ceremony was preceded by a concelebrated mass led by Bishop Jacinto Jose, attended by Presidential Management Staff Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane, Rep. Conrado Estrella III, his grandfather Conrado Estrella Sr., and Vice Mayor Romeo Sim.
They joined SM Founder and Chairman Henry T. Sy, Sr., Mrs. Felicidad Sy, SM Supermarket president Herbert Sy, and SM Investments Corporation Vice Chairman Tessie Sy Coson.—LM
