MANGALDAN–Better late than never.

This may well be the case when the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) implemented its Free Patent Program called “Handog Titulo” initially in two towns last week.

The recipients in Mangaldan and Manaoag, made up mostly of senior citizens, thanked the DENR team headed by Regional Executive Director Corazon Davis for the land titles despite the long wait they had to bear.

The DENR distributed 3,565 land titles covering 983 hectares of mostly farmland, of which 2,365 titles within 540 hectares were in Mangaldan and the rest in Manaoag.

Aside from promoting security to recipients over the land they had long been tilling, the Free Patent drive was also in support of the government’s anti-poverty/hunger mitigation program.

DENR officials present during the distribution of land titles were Land Management Service Regional Technical Director Atty. Crizaldy Barcelo, RTD for Forest Management Remegio Atabay, Director Joel Salvador of the Environment Management Bureau, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Leduina Co, and Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer Raymund Gayo.—LM
