TAYUG–A new face is joining the congressional race in the 6th District with a vision to turn around the area’s agriculture sector and build a new middle-class society from among the farming communities.

Ed “Dodjie” Coloma Libatique, an investment management expert who worked with Smith Barney Citicorp in New York, said part of his program will be to entice capitalists, both foreign and domestic, to cash in on new business ventures in the district, particularly addressing the needs of modern agriculture.

He vowed to push for a legislative measure in Congress that will provide free public education from elementary to tertiary level, which should ensure at least one college-degree graduate for every financially handicapped Filipino family.

Libatique is also optimistic about a breakthrough in agricultural production in Eastern Pangasinan with the completion of the P7-billion re-regulating pond of the San Roque dam that has been programmed to irrigate 70,000 more hectares of farmlands.

He also intends to introduce a 7-year loan term with inflation-free interest rates that will be made available in all rural and commercial banks.

A native of Rosales town, Libatique said the growth potential of his hometown can spur the opening up of new investments in the area if the town’s economy is managed well.—LM
