ANOTHER Pulido is joining politics.

Television broadcaster Makibaka “Maki” Pulido, the second child of Anda Mayor Nestor Pulido and 1st District Board Member Alicia Pulido, announced last week that she is vying for the 1st District congressional seat in the May 2010 elections.

The 37-year old Pulido, speaking at the Engkwentro forum of the Pangasinan Press Club at Lenox Hotel in Dagupan City last Wednesday, said she is giving up her successful 15-year career in journalism “to serve the people”.

In an interview with The PUNCH after the forum, Pulido said her exposure to the plight of the poor while covering news and feature stories inspired her to enter politics.

“I told myself, maybe if there is an opportunity to be of help and be able to directly be an agent of change, then maybe I should also go into politics,” Pulido said.

She also said media and politics are similar in that both are intended for public service.

“I’m just moving from one spectrum to the other spectrum,” she said.

Pulido, like her parents, will join the Partido ng Masang Pilipino of former President Joseph Estrada and the Biskeg na Pangasinan, the only provincial party in Pangasinan accredited by the Commission on Elections.

“I want to be an effective mouthpiece of my district mates,” she said, adding that transparency and accountability will be a major part of her political agenda.#
