LESS is more.

This was the message delivered by Mayor Benjamin Lim to Dagupeños last week during the regular flag raising ceremony last Monday at the City Plaza.

“We must ask ourselves if we can raise more children. But if not, having two is enough,” Lim said in the vernacular.

Citing a study given to him by City Population Officer Alex De Venecia that Filipino parents need at least P8,000 a month to rear a child, Lim urged couples to think about this when planning their family.

“How can a nation be great if there are no great communities? How can one city be great if there are no great families that form the communities?” he challenged.

Lim called on the public to live by the slogan “Responsableng Pamilya, Buhay Mas Giginhawa”, which was the theme of a program hosted by the City Population Office.

Before Lim spoke, Pastor June Dulay of the Christ Abundant Grace Ministry International preached on the role of parents on fostering good families as encapsulated in Ephesian 5:22-31, followed by a message by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez.

De Venecia capped off the ceremony by telling participants to base their family planning methods on “informed choice”.

NO TO RH BILL

Meanwhile, Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas is carrying on with his rally against the proposed Reproductive Health bill in Congress.

Speaking before some 2,000 high school students and faculty members of the Pangasinan School of Arts and Trades (PSAT) in Lingayen last week, Fr. Soc said corruption and not the population explosion that is at the root of poverty.

He cited that Japan is more progressive than the Philippines because of the difference of the attitude of the officials toward corruption.

Soc said, hinting at former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who is currently facing charges on corruption.– CIO and Johanne Margarette R. Macob
