Team Mangaldan takes 2nd spot
TOUR OF CEBU
RACING against all odds, the Team Mangaldan of Mayor Herminio Romero survived the grueling five-day Tour of Cebu bikathon and finished behind champion National Team, pocketing the P50,000 second prize and the Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia trophy.
The province’s well-known five-man original quad of Mangaldan-based Pitaki Boyz, coached by Jazy Garcia, maintained its third position in the first three days of the race and successfully managed to capture the second position after the four of five stages through the effort of 2003 Tour Pilipinas king Arnel Quirimit who won the 216 kilometers longest stage in a convincing solo-finish fashion.
Quirimit’s teammates Baler Ravina and Renato Sembrano came in sixth and seventh, respectively, to lift the Romero boys for its best finish in this year’s multi-stage racing.
The nationals, sponsored by party-list Rep. Arnel Ty-owned LPGMA squad, bagged the P75,000 team top prize with Butuan City riders finishing third for P30,000 plus trophy apiece.
The top three individual honors went to John Renier Mier of host Cebu, Bataan-born and Olongapo City resident Rudy Roque and Guimba, and Nueva Ecija son Rustom Lim, bringing home P30,000, P20,000 and P10,000, respectively.—JAGJr
