PRISAA METRO DAGUPAN DIVISION

THE Northwestern University (LNU) team has fortified its bid to retain the crown in basketball by subduing the equally-talented Pangasinan Merchant Marine Academy (PAMMA) squad, 97-82, in the opener of the 2012 PRISAA Metro Dagupan Division Collegiate Games last Thursday at the Peoples Astrodome. Down by a 0-9 blast in the early going, the LNU Dukes engineered by reliable George Alipio, spurted an array of conversions from the perimeter as they frustrated the quest of the PAMMA mariners to dethrone the champs of last year’s PRISAA cagefest.

In the other match-up featured after the Games’ opening ceremonies, the Colegio de Dagupan (CDD) quintet edged the multi-champ University of Luzon (UL) Five, 60-76, in a seesaw battle that thrilled the jampacked crowd, especially in the remaining few seconds of the game.

UL could have won the game had its ace shooters converted their charities on the free throw line.

This year’s PRISAA Division Games also include athletics, badminton, beach volleyball, dance sports, volleyball, chess, judo, lawn tennis, karatedo, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, boxing and sepak takraw, which will be held in different venues and dates until September.

Other participating PRISAA member-schools are the Philippine College of Science and Technology (PCST) and PIMSAT Colleges.

The first place winners in these events, as qualified under PRISAA standard norms, shall represent Metro Dagupan in the 22nd PRISAA Region I Collegiate Games scheduled November 5-8, at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center, in Lingayen, and in Dagupan City for swimming.—Philamer C. Celi
