Villasis joins “Text2Teach” for improved education
VILLASIS–The quality of education of elementary students in ten public schools this town is expected to improve further after they became recipients of the “Text2Teach” program using highly interactive, easy-to-use multi-media packages.
Mayor Nonato Abrenica presented a check amounting to P100,000 to the Text2Teach alliance, represented by Mario Deriquito of Ayala Foundation, as the town’s counterpart for the program.
Heads of the 10 schools each immediately received a mobile phone and pre-paid SIM card for their schools while Kolin Philippines International, Inc., the TV-provider of the Text2Teach alliance, delivered the 29-inch colored television sets to the schools.
SEAMEO Innotech, a member of the Text2Teach alliance, will conduct an intensive three-day teachers’ training to prepare the teachers on the use of the Text2Teach technology and videos in the classroom.
Text2Teach is a private sector-led program that utilizes mobile technology for education supported by an alliance formed by Ayala Foundation, Nokia, the Department of Education, Globe Telecom, and SEAMEO Innotech.
Text2Teach evolved from the original satellite based delivery to a full cellular platform using a 3G enabled device such as the Nokia N95 8GB. The phone is equipped with an application called “Nokia Education Delivery (NED)” which allows the teacher to select from the 387 education videos on Math, Science and English specifically created for the project, providing a highly effective visual aid for teachers.
The program creates an interactive, student-focused learning environment in the classroom. The videos are viewed on the 29-inch television sets provided by the project.
Globe Telecom provides free P150 monthly load allowance for one year to be used for helpdesk concerns and additional P1,000 load if there are new or updated materials to be downloaded through the mobile phones using their 3G network-#
