City celebrates Children’s Month

To observe the celebration of the Children’s Month in Dagupan and in keeping with the tradition started way back in 1993, some 2,000 children, accompanied by their parents and teachers were treated to a free movie at CSI the City Mall cinemas on Thursday, courtesy of Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez.

The children, in different batches, watched the movie “Up”, an English film about a grandfather and a boy scout, and were given free snacks and goodies.

Craftfood Philippines, maker of notably of Eden and Tang, supports the project of Vice Mayor Fernandez for the children every year.

City Social Welfare Officer Elsa Santillan thanked Vice Mayor Fernandez whose commitment to the program brings cheers to the children.

The theme of this year’s the Children’s Month is “Bright Child karapatan ng bata, pananagutan ng bansa“.

Marge Navata, who represented Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr., said that the free film treat is awaited annually by children, as it had become an event that meant a lot to them.

Most of the children who came were from the Day Care Centers in the city but street children were welcomed as well.

The Children’s month started on October 6 and 7 with the holding of the Children’s Health and Nutrition Congress at the People’s Astrodome.

On October 16, a motorcade will be held from the city plaza to the Astrodome where an inter-cultural presentation will be held, featuring children of various nationalities living in Dagupan.

On October 17, Children’s Day by virtue of Proclamation No. 74, the children will join a field trip to the different television and radio stations organized by the city.

Involved in the celebration children’s month are the Department of Education, City Social Welfare and Development Office, City Nutrition Office, City Health Office.
