Domestic operation in 2012, international flights in 2022
PANGASINAN AIRPORT IN ALAMINOS
ALAMINOS CITY–The dream for the Pangasinan Airport is finally taking shape with the established timetable for completion from 2009 to 2022.
According to Mayor Hernani Braganza, the first phase of the development for the period 2009-2012 will cover the construction of facilities for domestic operations.
The second phase, from 2012 to 2022, will prepare the airport for international operations.
Braganza said total cost for the preparation and construction is estimated to cost not less than P3 billion.
While the project will not be completed within the term of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, he expressed confidence that her successors will continue the project till its completion.
Under the MOA for the project signed by Braganza and DOTC Undersecretary Doroteo Reyes, the construction of an international airport in Alaminos City has been included as one of the flagship projects of the national government.
He said its continuity is assured since it is one of the identified projects under the North-West Luzon Agri-Business Quadrangle to boost the economic opportunities in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan.
Engr. Eduardo Garcia, project officer III of the City Planning and Development Office of Alaminos, said the runway to be constructed will initially be two kilometers and will fall under the category of a principal airport.
With a two-kilometer runway, the airport can accommodate turbo prop planes capable of bringing in tourists and cargo to Alaminos for the project.
The project will be constructed in Alaminos City’s Sabangan-Pandan area, which was selected from eight potential sites for the project.
The total area set to be acquired, as location of the project is 150 hectares.
The other sites initially considered were the Alos-Quibuar-Bakatiw area and San Vicente-Bued-Sabangan area, both in Alaminos City; Lingayen, Sta. Barbara, Binalonan, Rosales and Bani.
The Sabangan-Pandan-Telbang area in Alaminos was finally chosen based on the multiple criteria analysis that was used that covered technical, economical, financial and environmental considerations.
The city government will commence land acquisition three months after the transfer of a part of the first trance of the P150 million to the city.
Braganza reiterated that the establishment of the airport would bring more opportunities not just for the city of Alaminos but for the province of Pangasinan and will complement a proposed international seaport to be built by the government in adjacent Sual town.-LM
