Pangasinan is insurgency-free

PANGASINAN is insurgency-free, for now.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines established this finding and is expected to report this officially to Malacanang next month.

However, Police Provincial Director Percival Barba chose to disclose the finding prematurely to reassure residents of formerly-insurgency infested towns of possible armed encounters in their areas.

The province of La Union was earlier declared as insurgency-free.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. said the latest assessment means Pangasinan has won the fight against insurgency and the Provincial Security Council that he heads, will  soon evaluate the  need for the continued presence of army units and  auxiliary forces in the province.

He, however, clarified that being declared insurgency-free does not mean there will absolutely be no sightings of rebel groups but simple that rebel groups will no longer have the capacity to establish a base of operations in the province. (VMHS/PIA-Pangasinan)
