PSU to build 9th campus in Alaminos
ALAMINOS CITY– The Pangasinan State University (PSU) is set to build another campus here, its 9th in the province.
Mayor Hernani Braganza and Dr. Victoriano Estira, PSU president, recently signed a memorandum of agreement for the project, which will be located in Barangay Boliney.
Existing PSU campuses are in Asingan, Bayambang, Binmaley, Infanta, Lingayen, San Carlos, Sta. Maria, and Urdaneta.
The Alaminos campus will be an entrepreneurial non-stock educational institution with the vision and mission of extending educational opportunities to the residents of western Pangasinan.
Under the MOA, PSU will provide access and learning opportunities for its degree and ladderized degree programs, extension and research program/services to individuals and clientele groups to be operated and maintained at the school building to be built by Alaminos City.
The university will also provide faculty, professors, instructors, administrative and support personnel as well as the necessary instructional materials, lab equipment, classroom and office facilities and student support.
On the other hand, the city government will provide the site and buildings, including classrooms, labs, administrative buildings and academic offices, and conduct information campaigns to promote the school.
Estira hailed Braganza’s vision and initiative of bringing the PSU university system in Alaminos City despite the fact that his family owns and manages a private school that caters to students from pre-school to college.
“We have to put in place the campus in the city of Alaminos to enable our children to have access not only to affordable but most importantly the quality education they deserve,” Braganza said.
Among the courses to be offered are Teacher Education Program, B.S. in Hospitality Management, Agriculture, Medical Courses, and ladderized B.S. in Fisheries Education.—LM
