Killings disrupt peace in Tayug
TAYUG–Tension is high in Tayug following the discovery of a suspected salvage victim just before a bridge in Barangay Magallanes here on Friday.
Four days earlier, a man was shot dead and his two companions wounded inside a videoke bar in Barangay “A” here last September 14.
The spate of killings comes at a time when two of the major retail business companies in the province, the CSI Group of Companies and the Magic Group of Companies, have just started work for the construction of their branches in the town.
The victim of alleged salvaging was identified as Jerome Calibuso, 30, of San Quintin town who had a gunshot wound in his collarbone that pierced through his body.
Police investigation indicate that Calibuso, positively identified by his relatives who came to Tayug early Friday morning, was shot and killed somewhere else before being dumped at the site where his body was found.
Meanwhile, killed in a shooting incident inside Marilou’s Canteen and Videoke Bar, just 10 meters away from the Catholic Church, was Marciano Marzan, identified as the chief tanod in adjacent San Felipe East, San Nicolas town.
His two drinking buddies wounded in that incident were identified as Tomas Arguiza of Barangay Saleng, Tayuig and PablitoAquino of Barangay Cauplasan, Sta. Maria who were both treated at the Family Hospital here and at the Trauma Specialist Doctors Hospital in Dagupan City.
Witnesses identified the suspect as a certain Banjo Callejo, a utility worker of the municipal government. His companion remains unidentified.
Callejo boarded a motorcycle driven by another person and left the scene, but boldly came back later to pick up some empty shells of a Caliber 9 mm. pistol, according to witnesses.
Mayor Carlos Trese Mapili maintains that the town enjoys peace and order and that violent incidents are isolated criminal cases. —LM
