Christmas came for some 20,000 Grades I and 2 public school pupils in the fourth district of Pangasinan this month.

House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. gifted them with free school supplies consisting of notebooks, paper pads, pencil, erasers, rulers and crayons.

De Venecia personally turned over these schools supplies to principals in the city and in San Fabian, Mangaldan, San Jacinto and Manaoag who in turn distributed these to teachers handling grades 1 and 2 classes.

The turn-over was witnessed by Vice mayor Alvin Fernandez, Councilors Michael Fernandez, Farah Marie Decano, Teofilo Guadiz III, Jose Netu Tamayo and Alex De Venecia.

The speaker said the children in the district should always be helped in their quest for education. “Improving capabilities of children to study and learn will enable the Filipino students to be competitive with their counterparts in foreign countries,” the Speaker said.

City Schools Superintendent Aurora Domingo, thanked Speaker de Venecia for his generosity.

Domingo said the free school supplies are a big help to parents who have a difficult time coping with the spiraling costs of school supplies for their children.

In his recent visit to the public schools, de Venecia also pledged to provide additional computers for student’s use.

De Venecia also promised to build one classroom building for his alma mater, the West Central School.

Domingo recently accompanied 12 senior high school students of Dagupan City who went to the United States for a study exchange program with Milpitas City.

She was joined in that 25-day trip by Councilor Danilo Torio, chair of SP committee on education. – AQL
