Two doctors traced to medicine racket

SAN CARLOS CITY – The medicine racket perpetrated by doctors working in government hospitals continues to flourish.

This was recently discovered by an official of the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital who said two doctors have been found continuously prescribing medicines that cannot be sourced out from their pharmacy but from appointed drug stores outside the hospital.

Dr. Policarpio Manuel, chief of clinic of the PPH, said a task force formed by the PPH management was able to unmask the two suspects but he refused to identify the two doctors.

The policy of government hospitals is to prescribe medicines that can be sourced from the hospital’s pharmacy where medicines are expectedly cheaper.

The task force suspects that the two doctors are receiving commissions from the drug stores where the doctors’ prescriptions are served.

These doctors reportedly casually give their prescriptions to the patients’ watchers, after monitoring the condition of the patients.

Dr. Manuel said relatives of patients had complained about these two doctors who made it a habit to issue prescriptions indiscriminately.

According to Dr. Manuel, an information drive about availability of medicines in the pharmacy is ongoing and to alert patients and watchers about fake or counterfeit drugs being sold outside of the hospital.

Meanwhile, no sanction has been applied to the two suspected doctors who continue to violate hospital rules. – A.P.E.
