STEPPING up the capacity for disaster preparedness, 59 police personnel of the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) recently completed a 15- day Disaster Search and Rescue Management Training (DSRMT).

“This is a big step towards disaster preparedness and police being at the forefront of rescue operations, we need to double our preparations to ensure safety and security of our people,” said Chief Superintendent Franklin Jesus Bucayu, regional director of PRO.

The training was participated in by 10 police commissioned officers (Police Senior Inspectors and Police Inspectors) and 49 police non-commissioned officers (PO1 and PO2) presently assigned at Regional Public Safety Battalion 1 and in various municipal and city police stations.

Bucayu said the training equipped his men with better capability to be more effective and systematic in times of emergencies and calamity-related operations.

“With your specialized training, you have been provided with added knowledge about your responsibilities as first-line responders in rescue operations… and having achieved confident familiarity with the proper procedures in responding to emergency situations, disasters, and similar occurrences, you have significantly upgraded your knowledge and skills in the administration of first aid and basic life support,” Bucayo told his men.

Bucayo thanked the trainors and lecturers as well as the Office of the Civil Defense  and the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) headed by Director Melchito Castro for their support and cooperation in the conduct of the training.—Eva Visperas
