By September 19, 2009Governance, News

ELECTION officer Candido Urbano, who heads the Commission on Election (Comelec) office in Binmaley, has clarified that his office is open only on Mondays because his staff are conducting field work the rest of the week.

Townsfolk have aired complaints about the closed office, accusing the Comelec staff of negligence.

Urbano explained they go around the 33 barangays Tuesdays to Saturdays, to make the registration of voters more convenient for residents.

From these rounds for the period December 2008 to July 31, they were able to enlist 90% of the target number voter registrants, and that as of September, 85% of the voters have been validated.

Urbano pointed out that his staff work even on holidays. -(Gregor A. Sajonas)
