CALASIAO – Finally, the town can look forward to a that had to an efficient water system to serve the barangays.

House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., third district Rep. Generoso Tulagan and Undersecretary for Local Governance Antonio Villar Jr led local officials headed by Mayor Roy Macanlalay in a simple groundbreaking rite last Monday to signal the start of the construction of the P150 million water system project.

De Venecia, proponent of the Build-Operate-Transfer scheme, lauded the local officials for proving to all that multi-million pesos projects for the people can be pursued even without a national or local government’s capital outlay for such infrastructures.

According to Mayor Macanlalay, the water system will cover all the 24 barangays and will benefit some 90,000 residents.

It will be recalled that a number of its residents had constantly suffered water-borne diseases on account of unsafe water in the town.

The Water For Calasiao Inc., the company that will build the facilities, with the project proponents, New TBP Construction and Development Corp. and SIG Construction, will begin laying the pipes in barangay Bued.

The whole project is expected to be completed in four-five years.

The group was granted a 25-year franchise to undertake the project on a build-operate-transfer scheme and the local government will have the option to renew the contract for another 10 years should the group agree to upgrade its equipment and other facilities when the contract lapses.

“This is a long cherished dream and it is now fulfilled,” Macanlalay said. – EVA
