NOYPI launches signature campaign in Pangasinan

BINMALEY–The Noynoy for President Initiative or NOYPI has started its signature campaign in Pangasinan.

NOYPI, a group pushing Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, son of former President Corazon Aquino and the slain former Senator Benigno Aquino, to run for president in 2010, was launched last week even as Noynoy has said he still has to take a spiritual discernment before making a decision.

“The signature campaign in Pangasinan starts here in our humble town of Binmaley and then the neighboring   towns   will follow,” Amado Aquino, coordinator of NOYPI Pangasinan, told local newsmen.

Cesar Cortes of NOYPI in Manila arrived for the launching of the signature drive held at the Binmalenia Cafe.

“It’s like Cory fever allover again,” Cortes said.

Cortes is optimistic that it will not be difficult gathering one million signatures nationwide so the challenge is to double the figure to add more pressure on the senator to heed the public clamor.

Aquino said the convenors of the NOYPI in Pangasinan are the original “bunch of boys” that took the lead in the Cory Aquino for President Movement (CAPM) in 1985-86.

“No one dared to challenge the (Marcos) administration then but these “bunch of boys” did it”, he said.

Aquino said his group is that “bold step” again, but this time no longer as a “bunch of boys” but an oldies group as they are now in their 50s.

“People see new hope of politics in Noynoy,” Cortes said.#
