‘Bolt-cutter’ robbery gang members arrested

FIVE suspected members of the ‘bolt-cutter’ robbery group were intercepted and arrested by the police at a checkpoint in Bugallon town last week.

Police Regional Director Ramon Gatan said the arrest is a major feat as the group is known to be responsible for several big robbery cases not just in the province but also in the entire region.

The suspects are identified as Frederick Cervantes, 23, a native of Bugallon; Randy Roque, 30, and Renato Lacsina, 47, both from Porac, Pampanga; Fernando Fernandez, 48, and Antonio Cortez, 43, also of Angeles City in Pampanga.

The gang is known for its modus operandi using a bolt cutter to forcibly enter residential houses, buildings and establishments to commit robbery.

The arrest came after the police were alerted following a reported robbery incident in Mangatarem.

The five suspects were arrested while on board their get-away vehicle.

The police seized firearms and several rounds of ammunition in addition to their tools and part of their loot that included a Toshiba laptop, JVC DVD player, Sony Bravia LCD TV, Nokia 8310 cell phone, three TV remote controls, assorted jewelry, assorted watches, five photocopies of OR/CR of various vehicles, five pieces of vehicle plates, and bills of various currencies.#
