Urdaneta City landfill for Dagupan, too
DAGUPAN forever lost its claim to a land ostensibly intended for a sanitary landfill so city hall is now looking into the possible use of the sanitary landfill that will be put up by Urdaneta City instead.
This was revealed by Dagupan City Information Officer Ryan Ravanzo even as talks are already ongoing with the Clark Development Authority for its landfill in Capas, Tarlac.
Ravanzo, speaking in behalf of Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. Tuesday at the Engkwentro sa Lenox forum, said the announcement of Urdaneta Mayor Amadeo Perez Jr. that their landfill will be open to other towns’ use for a fee, is welcome news.
Fernandez earlier acknowledged that Dagupan, the commercial and business center of the province, is faced with a worsening problem on garbage disposal.
The previous administration under Mayor Benjamin Lim purchased a 16-hectare lot for P11 million in San Jacinto for a planned landfill but the city eventually lost possession of it.
Fernandez appears he is no longer interested in re-acquiring that land.
Meanwhile, Perez, who was also in the same forum, said Urdaneta’s sanitary landfill is expected to accommodate the 75 to 80 tons of garbage of his city plus several more from neighboring areas. —LM
