LINGAYEN—In the midst of criticisms over his infomercials on television as a guise for early campaigning, Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno confirmed on Friday that he wants to run for vice president in the 2010 election under the merged Lakas-Kampi-CMD.

“I want to be the vice president in 2010. Now if the party does not believe that I am good enough candidate, I will just go back to my chicken at magsasabong na lang ako,” he said with a chuckle during a press conference at the Pangasinan Veterans’ Park here.

Puno was in town to address the newly recruited 13,600 members of the Barangay Peace-keeping Action Team (BPAT) from the province’s 48 towns and cities.

If chosen to be the administration party’s vice presidential candidate, Puno, more known as a “king maker”, said he would do his best to win along with the party’s presidential bet.

Puno defended his infomercials on television saying these are not meant to promote himself but the accomplishments of his department and the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Siguro ayaw nilang naririnig ang mga nagagawa ng departmento ko, nagagawa ng Presidente. But if you look at the records of this administration, there has been more infrastructures done under President Arroyo than President (Ferdinand) Marcos,” said Puno who also served under Marcos.

He also cited the DILG’s accomplishments for improving the Philippine National Police.

“We have been able to buy more facilities, more vehicles, more communication equipment and everything than before,” Puno said.—LM
