Dagupeños campaign vs. TB
Dagupan City’s Sangguniang Panlungsod approved on August 10 Resolution No. 6419 urging all Dagupeños to join the national observance of Tuberculosis Awareness Month.
August is observed as Tuberculosis Awareness Month in honor of the memory of the late President Manuel Quezon whose birthday was on August 19, and himself a victim of the disease.
Councilor Jesus Canto said the city government has further intensified its campaign against TB when it recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the private sector to make the city TB-free by year 2020.
The MOA was signed by Mayor Al Fernandez Jr., Councilors Canto, Alfie Fernandez and Danilo Torio, city administrator Alvin Fernandez, city health officer Leonard Carbonell, Pangasinan Medical Society president Fernando Fernandez and Dr. Jennifer Ann Wi who represented the Department of Health.
Residents diagnosed with tuberculosis may now avail of the TB Package through the Directly Observed Treatment Short-course (DOTS) which provides free treatment from six months to one year.
Patients can also get free sputum examination, x-ray and culture and sensitivity testing. — LM
