Bugallon pupil wins Nutrition Month contest
LINGAYEN—Grade-six pupil Ahden Ganaganag of Umanday Elementary School in Bugallon emerged as champion in the province-wide Poster and Slogan Making contest sponsored by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) on July 30 at the Capitol Resort Hotel here.
Other winners are: John Norman Rodriguez (Anda Elementary School), second place; Jonathan Mark Somera (East Central Elementary School – San Fabian), third place; John Rodolph Cerdan (Mangaldan Integrated School) and Richard Sison Jr. (Lobong Elementary School –San Jacinto), tied in fourth place; and Sharin Verzola (Sual Central School), sixth place.
The contest was the culminating activity of the province’s observance of the 38th National Nutrition Month focused on the theme: “Pagkain ng Gulay Ugaliin, Araw Araw itong Ihain”.
PHO Nutritionist-Dietician II Milagros A. Gutierrez, representing Provincial Health Officer Anna Maria Teresa de Guzman, said the theme stressed the promotion of increased consumption of fruits and vegetables.
Gutierrez noted that the annual Nutrition Month in the country observed every July has been advocating various means and practices for healthy living.
“This year, the celebration put emphasis on the importance of healthy and balanced diet including vegetables in daily meals not only for children but also for adults,” she said.
PHO Family Health Program Cluster Head Cielo Almoite congratulated the participants and some representatives from the Health Divisions of Department of Education Pangasinan 1 and Pangasinan 2 for joining the province’s Nutrition Month observance despite the inclement weather.
Aside from medals and certificates, the contenders received cash prizes.
The judges of the contest were: Nutrition Officer I Emma Rose Pineda of National Nutrition Council Region 1; Medical Officer III Dr. Cielo Almoite of the PHO; and Jessie Manuel from PSAT/TESDA.
The top three participants from Pangasinan 1 and Pangasinan 2 who produced the best poster and slogan entries during the division eliminations were accompanied by DepEdDivision of Pangasinan 1 Medical Officer IV Dr. Marisol M. Mamaradlo and DepEdDivision of Pangasinan 2 Nurse Angelica Ocbo together with some constituents from their divisions. (PIO/Mark Gerry Naval Oblanca)
