6,000 pupils benefit from feeding program

SOME 6,000 pupils from 21 of 33 public elementary schools in Dagupan benefited from the schools feeding program launched since July 1 by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez in partnership with the City Nutrition Office headed by Leah Aquino.

Fernandez said with the 12 remaining schools to be covered in the coming days, the schools feeding program this year is about to be completed.

Under the schools feeding program, malnourished children from Grades I to IV are given oatmeal for breakfast, courtesy of supply provided by the CSI Group of Companies.

Records of the City Nutrition Office showed that the malnutrition rate among school children has steadily gone down since the implementation of the feeding program.

Other groups contributing to the program are the Philippine Dental Association Chapter headed by Lucy Hondrado, and Councilor Librada Reyna, incoming president of the Rotary Club of Uptown Dagupan that adopted Barangay Tambac where it will conduct 120-day breakfast feeding.

Meanwhile, schools in Dagupan are celebrating Nutrition Month this July with culminating activities, including a Malunggay Cookfest, set  at  the CSI the City Mall on July 30 at 2:00 p.m.—LM
