Vice Governor Oscar Lambino, Padac executive director, said the bikefest dubbed as “Siklista Laban sa Droga Cycling Challenge” will be for amateur cyclists only with a maximum of 70 accredited participants.
More than P30,000 in cash prizes, trophies and medals are up for grabs.
Malasiqui will be the start and finish points and the cyclists will be made to traverse the central municipalities of Pangasinan, like Bayambang, Basista, San Carlos City, Urbiztondo, Mangatarem, Aguilar, Bugallon, Lingayen, Binmaley, Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, Mangaldan, SanJacinto, Manaoag and Mapandan with an approximate distance of 144 kilometers.
Lambino pointed out that the main objective of the bike meet is to raise the level of awareness of the need to fight the use of illegal drugs that threaten and ruin families.
“We are imparting the message that sports like cycling in particular, is a good antidote against illegal drugs and still benefit from a healthy body and mind.” Lambino said.
“And by holding these cycling races, we can discover new talents from the province, hone their skills for bigger competitions and eventually produce anew national champions,” Lambino explained.
“We are still the cradle in Philippine cycling, then, now and in the future”.
The ‘wheel-by-wheel’ account of the race will be aired live over Super Radyo 1548 khz am, starting at 10:00 a.m. — JAG
