Biskeg na Pangasinan strengthens its ranks
By Eva C. Visperas
They met. They chatted. They were all excited to see each other.
They sat down to discuss important matters to reinforce their group’s clout.
Yes, Biskeg na Pangasinan’s board of directors, once again gathered last Saturday night, officially that is, after it was also officially accredited by the Commission on Elections as the first local provincial party in Pangasinan. This means its members who belong to various political parties and eventually get the support of the group, may begin to use Lakas-Biskeg, PC-Biskeg,, LDP-Biskeg, Nacionalista-Biskeg, among others.
Let me count those present as I was there, too. There was Undersecretary for Local Governance Antonio Villar Jr, Vice Governor Oscar Lambino, fifth district board Member Dionisio Villar Jr, Immigrations Commissioner Alipio Fernandez Jr, and his son, Dagupan City Vice Mayor Alvin Fernandez, Mabini Mayor Ariel de Guzman, Calasiao Mayor Roy Macanlalay, former Sta. Barbara Mayor Carlito Zaplan, Malasiqui Mayor Alfonso Soriano, Mapandan Mayor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, San Carlos City Mayor Julian Resuello, San Fabian Mayor Mojamito Libunao Jr, Rosales Mayor Ricardo Revita.
Where’s Mayor Leo de Vera of Bayambang? I heard someone asked. Well, he excused himself for not feeling well that day. Mayor Leo, my kumpadre, said his blood pressure goes up and down and needed to rest.
Yes, the group wants to “cleanse and purge” its ranks by updating its membership list, subject to the approval of the board. You know, some may simply have vested interests to find a group that would support them in their political fights. But Biskeg wants to make sure that those who really belong, those who really care for the group, those who know what sacrifice means, those who are mindful of their colleagues’ well-being, those who share in the group’s vision to foster unity in Pangasinan, setting aside personal interest, if needed, must be welcomed.
Remember that the group operates like a family under the guidance of their respected head, Usec Bebot.
Here’s the real score. There has been no endorsement yet by the board of the candidacy of any of its members aspiring for a higher position. Even the re-electionists have not yet gotten the nod of the group.
But, original and active members, those who remain true to their commitment to the group, will enjoy the equity of the incumbent principle.
Actually, the board directors shared the common observation that elections are still far and each official must not prevent or deprive any candidate who would want to introduce himself/herself from a particular town or city the privilege and the right to sponsor sports competitions, medical missions, and other charitable projects.
Will there be original members who may not get Biskeg’s anointment?
Possible, I guess, if the board agrees that the aspirant is not deserving.
But of course, I also guess, that as a “family member”, the group will probably ask that fellow to seek other options and weigh all things well before jumping into a tough fight where he or she will most likely be at the losing end.
I believe that this will not be embarrassing the aspirant but saving him or her from a certain political disaster.
Well, I have been a very witness to most of the happenings of Biskeg and what I share with you here are my personal observations.
For the many long years that I’ve worked with Biskeg officials, I’ve learned the best and the worst of the political world. But it’s exciting, similar to the media world. Everyday has its developments. What is true now may be gone tomorrow.
