US group donates 15 dialysis machines
LINGAYEN–More than P15 million worth of dialysis machines will be formally turned over to the provincial government by the US-based Medical Mission Group-Bridge of Life on Monday at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) in San Carlos City .
Gov. Amado Espino Jr., will receive the 15 machines during a ceremony that will also mark the opening of the first dialysis center in Pangasinan at the PPH.
“This is another breakthrough in the upliftment of health care services especially for indigent patients who need kidney treatment at an affordable price,” Espino said in a talk with Cindy Barnard, vice-president of the DaVita medical mission team in the Philippines.
DaVita is one of the leading service providers of kidney care in the United States and supports the Bridge of Life’s efforts in partnering with local entities.
“We have already helped establish dialysis clinics worldwide such as South America, Guatamela, Cameroon, India, Ecuador and the latest is here in the Philippines,” Barnard said.
Barnard added that Pangasinan was chosen because “only the province of Pangasinan, through its local officials, has extended support, commitment and partnership with us to achieve our goal.”
Aside from 15 dialysis equipment, the DaVita Medical Mission will provide related supplies such as dialyzer, artificial kidney, bloodlines, and syringe needles, among others, free for six months.
A team sent by the donors spent three weeks in the province last month to train nurses on the operation of the machines.—LM
