TPLEx construction starts Aug. 2010
ROSALES–Construction of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx) is expected to commence in August next year upon completion of the Right-Of-Way Acquisition (ROWA) from Tarlac to Gerona, according to Presidential Management Staff (PMS) Secretary Hermogenes Esperon Jr.
TPLEx will run from the end of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway in La Paz, Tarlac to Rosario, La Union.
Esperon, who headed Malacanang’s Pro-Performance Team that visited Rosales on Thursday, said the Philippine Infrastructure Development Corporation (PIDC), the project’s contractor, committed to start civil works immediately as soon as lots for the alignment had been acquired by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
While in Pangasinan, Esperon’s team met with the implementing agencies, the municipal mayors of Rosales in Pangasinan and Cuyapo and Nampicuan in Nueva Ecija to plan for the completion of ROWA.
The first phase of the project will be from La Paz to Gerona with a distance of 88.6 kilometers, second phase, from Gerona to Rosales; and the third phase, from Rosales to Rosario, La Union.
TPLEx will traverse the municipalities of Victoria, Gerona, Paniqui and Moncada in Tarlac; Rosales, Urdaneta City, Asingan, Binalonan, Pozorrubio and Sison in Pangasinan; then onward to Rosario, La Union.
The project is expected to spur economic developments in Regions 1- 3 and the Cordillera Administrative Region by extending the backbone of integrated expressway towards Northern Luzon.
Estimated to cost P12.1 billion, the project is seen to provide faster, safer, and more efficient transport of people and goods.
The expressway will also cut travel time from Tarlac to Rosario, La Union by about two hours from the current three hours using the Manila North Road.—LM
