Pozorrubio on the upswing

POZORRUBIO–Mayor Emma Zosima Chan, in her state of the municipality address last July 8, hailed the major contribution of the people here and abroad, citing them as the town’s new heroes.

The town posted an P88 million income in 2008, higher than the P77 million the previous year and Chan quickly credited the residents for the 14 % increase in the town’s income last year in spite of the national domestic financial crisis.

Chan said that if the trend continues in the next three years, the town can look forward to a cityhood status.

“For the meantime, let us enjoy being a peaceful and progressive 1st Class town,” she added.

With no major tourist attraction and no large-scale industry to boost the local economy, the mayor credited the town’s financial performance not only to good governance but also to the Pozorrubian migrants, emigrants and overseas workers who have generously supported not only their own families but also the programs and projects of the local government.

Pozorrubio was listed by Western Union as the only community in the Philippines with an LGU that is able to encourage its overseas residents to make collective remittances not only to support their families but also to raise funds for the development of their town.

She also thanked the Sangguniang Bayan for passing laws that facilitated the delivery of goods and services to the people.—JV
