Sitio Russia now partially cleared – Alvin

THE site for the building of the planned Seafood Processing Plant in Sitio Russia Barangay Bonuan Binloc is finally cleared of squatters as of June 25.

The twenty-four families that initially resisted attempts to relocate them, voluntarily moved to the Gawad KalingaBangusville Phase II in Sitio Korea, said City Administrator Alvin Fernandez.

Fernandez said the 38 families who remain in the site are occupying the area reserved for car park area and the docking area for boats arriving from various coastal municipalities in the province bringing in fish products to the plant for processing.

The Gawad Kalinga-Bangusville II has been prepared to accommodate 62 families.

With the main area already cleared, Administrator Fernandez said, the Korean contractor can start the construction as scheduled on July 1.

The remaining area in Sitio Russia awaiting to be cleared, however, is still huge.

Last Friday, officials led City Engineer Virginia Rosario and City Legal Officer George Mejia held a new meeting at the Barangay Hall of Bonuan Binloc to finalize the requirements for the start of the construction of the project.

Fernandez again aired his appeal to the still resisting residents of Sitio Russia to vacate and allow the unhampered construction of the whole area since the Seafood Processing Plant, funded by a P100 million grant from the Korean government, will bring long-term benefits to the city and people.

He said Bonuan Binloc will reap the most benefits from the plant because the project will result in the establishment of support industries, like trucking, shipping, food and others, including the establishment of a satellite market and terminal.-LM
