Pinoys have global edge in IT

A noted historical biographer and public relations executive from Dagupan City challenged graduates to stay on course, compete and continue to banner the Filipino flag in the 2lst century.

Melandrew T. Velasco stressed this when he spoke during the 55th commencement exercises of the AMA Computer College where he challenged graduates tofind their mark in the competitive information technology (IT).

He said for the Philippines to compete in the global arena, it must neverĀ  lose sight of the challenges posed by China and India not only in terms of information and computer technology but more so in economic arena.

Fresh from his 10-day trip in Beijing, Velasco observed that China has literally paced the growth in the global market while the Philippines is simply lagging behind in the market.

“If we are to be competitive as individuals, as an institution like AMA and as a country, let’s go the way of China with single vision of competing in the 2lst century,” Velasco said.

At present, Velasco serves as media counselor for Nextream Broadband Philippines, a fast-rising technology corporation based in Hallandale, Florida which uses the “broadband over power lines” (BPL) system that will connect ordinary folk in the rural areas with a wide-range of education, connectivity and information through the use of internet, telephone, on-demand cable TV right in their households.
