4 carnappers nabbed, 2 hostages rescued
CAMP FLORENDO, La Union– Elements of the Urdaneta police intercepted and arrested four suspected kidnappers-car hijackers and rescued their two hostages at a police checkpoint last Thursday afternoon.
In his report to Chief Supt. Ramon Gatan, police regional director, Urdaneta Police Chief Rodolfo Castil said two women held hostage by the suspects inside the car they had hijacked at gunpoint, were rescued.
The four suspects were identified as Mark Rey Bautista, 25, of Angeles City; Edwin Solis, 23, of Marikina City; Jayson Ceneta, 22, of Pasay City; and Arjay Afable, 21, of Iloilo.
He identified the rescued hostages as Zenaida Gaza-Lorenzo, 58, and Cecilia Gasa, 50.
Lorenzo and Gasa were bound for Baguio City on board their Toyota Hi-Ace Van (RGE-343) when they were held at gunpoint by the four suspects at a gas station in Barangay Saitan, Rosario, La Union. The suspects then drove the vehicle taking with them the two victims.
Upon receipt of the report of the incident, members of the Urdaneta City police led by P/Insp. Gerard Antonio immediately set up a checkpoint.
The police also recovered from the suspects one Cal. 45 pistol with magazine and six live ammunition, two packaging tapes, and two bags containing the suspects’ clothes.
Cases for carnapping, kidnapping and illegal possession of firearms are being filed against the arrested suspects.
Chief Supt. Gatan commended the police operatives for their timely coordination and quick response.
