Finally, drug lord arrested in Dagupan
IN response to the call of Mayor Benjamin S. Lim for a more serious and aggressive campaign against illegal drugs in their respective communities, Barangay Chairman Pedro Gonzales of Bonuan Binloc showed the police the way to catch one of the most notorious drug dealers in his barangay last July 16.
In a buy-bust operation, Dagupan City policemen led by chief, P/Supt. Romeo Caramat Jr., in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Authority, caught red handed five individuals, including the main target, Hernando Clauna y Lapore Jr., who owns the house where the suspects were having a pot session when the raid was conducted.
Clauna’s place is just a few meters away from Gonzales’ residence.
The other four were identified by Caramat as Mark Torio y Martecho, 18, of Bliss Site, Bonuan Binloc; German Garcia y Aquino, 35, of Russia Street, Bonuan Binloc; Leonardo Nonog y Mendoza, 24, also of Bliss Site; and Michael Ariyaw Chua, 30, a businessman who is residing at Amado Street here.
The operation also resulted in the confiscation of 23 heat-sealed shabu granules with a market value of P10,000.
Gonzales vowed more arrests will be conducted in the coming days to finally remove his barangay from the list of drug-affected barangays in the city.
Claun admitted that he was forced to push drugs to sustain his own addiction to shabu, adding his clients come from as far as Manaoag, San Jacinto and Mangaldan.
Lim commended the efforts of Gonzales but challenged Caramat to “catch the big fish”
“My challenge to our police officers is to catch the suppliers, because for all we know itong mga nahuhuli nila ay mga biktima din lang na nagtutulak na rin para masustentuhan yung kanilang bisyo,” said Lim.
Lim has acknowledged that the drug problem in Dagupan, which has come to be known as a drug hub in the region, is alarming. (CIO)
