Urbiztondo mayor found with cache of firearms, ammunition

URBIZTONDO–A cache of firearms and ammunition was seized by lawmen when they raided the house and poultry farm of Mayor Ernesto Balolong early Wednesday, armed with two search warrants issued by Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Marino de la Cruz of Branch 22 in Manila.

However, the raiders led by Supt. Michael Astrera of the Regional Intelligence Unit 1 and from the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office and the 3rd Regional Public Safety Battalion Maneuver Company were stunned as all the 14 high-powered firearms of the mayor were covered with licenses duly issued by Camp Crame.

Found by lawmen in the premises of Balolong were two Remington .45 caliber, one Para Ordnance .45 caliber, one Glock 19 .99 mm. pistol; one Colt 45 pistol, one 9, mm. sub-machine gun, one Bushmaster 5.56, one Colt 5.56 M16A1, two Winchester 7.62mm. M14, two H & R Arms 7.62 M14, 206 pieces of ammunition for M-16, 203 ammunition for Cal, M14, 67 ammunition for Cal. 45, 71 ammunition for Cal. 9mm, 29 pieces of shot gun shells, 13 pieces of magazines for M14 rifle and 10 magazines for M16 rifle.

Balolong was not arrested since he had the licenses of the firearms except for the nine pieces of live ammunition for Cal. 380 and 39 empty shells for the same firearm, also found by the raiders inside his house on Rizal Street here, for which a case for violation of Presidential Decree No. 1866 as amended by Republic Act No. 8294 may be filed against him.
