Thousands try luck in jobs fair
ALAMINOS CITY–Alaminos City – Thousands of job-seekers queued up to file their applications during a jobs fair sponsored by the city government recently.
Councilor Carol Dizon-Sison, chair of the committee on labor and trade in the city council, said the jobs fair was undertaken to help reduce unemployment and curb hunger.
Twice postponed because of the many activities lined up by the city government this summer, the jobs fair was initiated by the city government led by Mayor Hernani Braganza to help qualified workers find jobs here and abroad.
Sison said the jobs fair assured not only jobs but also career opportunities here and abroad for professionals, experts and skilled workers.
She said there are some 3,000 job openings in several multinational companies that joined the jobs fair that need to be filled up.
Coordinating in the jobs fair were the Provincial Employment Service Office, Department of Labor and Employment and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.
PESO Officer-in-Charge Alex Ferrer said in jest that that judging from the big number of job applicants, Alaminos City would soon be affected by brain drain.
“It’s good that jobseekers from the neighboring towns heard the news of the job market and came here,” Ferrer said.
Councilor Danilo Sison, one of the major sponsors of the jobs fair, coordinated with town mayors in the first district of Pangasinan to send job-seekers to the fair.
