Verzosa is police director
ALL’S well that ends well in a compromise, so it seems, for Governor Amado Espino Jr. and Police Senior Superintendent Mariano Luis Verzosa Jr., chief of intelligence of the Police Regional Office 1 who will assume as provincial police chief starting July 16, albeit on an officer-in-charge capacity.
This was disclosed by Verzosa himself after a courtesy call on Espino Wednesday morning.
The Provincial Information Office on Thursday issued a press release announcing Verzosa’s OIC appointment.
In an interview later in San Carlos City, Espino said he will still object to Verzosa’s permanent appointment, reiterating his position that Verzosa would not be a neutral party during the campaign and election in May 2013 given his filial relationship with former Governor Victor Agbayani who will likely be Espino’s opponent for the gubernatorial post.
In the meantime, a turnover of command is scheduled Monday morning during the flag-raising ceremony of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Provincial Office between Verzosa and Superintendent Michael Nicolas who was designated OIC last April after former Police Director Rosueto Ricaforte left his post.
Verzosa, a native of Lingayen, said he is confident that he can easily adjust to his new post since he used to be a subordinate of the governor when the latter served as the PNP provincial director of Pangasinan.
“Alam naman ninyo kung papaano kami pukpukin sa trabaho noon as his subordinates,” Versoza said, adding that he finds his work will be easier since he knows exactly what the governor wants to accomplish.
At the same time, Versoza gave the assurance that there will be no radical changes in the present structure of PNP Pangasinan but said he will be “putting the right persons to the right positions”.
“Hindi kasi maganda sa isang organisasyon ang may bababa pa,” the new OIC said referring to reshuffling of workforce.
“Kung ano ‘yong naumpisahang trabaho ituloy lang at unti-unting hasain para mapabuti ang buong kapulisan ng Pangasinan,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the PNP’s peacekeeping efforts in the province will be improved.
Before his assignment in PRO-I in San Fernando City, La Union, Verzosa was chief of police in Dagupan City.
LONG-DECIDED
Eafrler, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo told newsmen in La Union on Tuesday that Verzosa was given \the green light to assume as OIC provincial director of Pangasinan.
Robredo admitted that Verzosa would have assumed earlier but they waited for Espino to come back from an official visit to the United States.
Verzosa was tapped for the post by PNP Chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome.
