Fishermen’s wives undergo livelihood training
THE Dagupan government, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), has provided training to wives of fishermen who were displaced in the river clean up program of the city.
The participants, 30 from Barangay Salapingao and 40 from Pugaro, were taught how to prepare bangus nuggets, bangus empanada, bangus quekiam, fish siomai, and bangus satsumage.
City Agriculture Officer Emma Molina led the demonstration in preparing and cooking bangus empanada.
The housewives, who were organized as an association, were also given kitchen utensils including a multi-purpose meat grinder, a stove with gas tank and a weighing scale to help them start off their business.
She added that the city will also teach the wives how to market their goods commercially and give them the opportunity to sell their products in schools and canteens offering specialty products.
“We also tapped a church community to assist us in shaping the attitudes of the participants and in changing their way of life so that they will learn how to work as one and develop their skills together,” Molina said.
“Kapag natuto na sila, we will help them get a food handlers certificate sa city health office,” she added. (CIO/JCB)
