‘Kalutan ed Dagupan’ draws half million
More than half a million participants, spectators and tourists are expected to join the grandest merriment on the occasion of the renowned “Kalutan ed Dagupan” slated at 4:30 p.m. today.
Councilor Nicanor Aquino, Bangus Festival 2006 executive chairman, said that the Kalutan ed Dagupan-Bangus sa Lansangan this year is a grand reunion of past festival participants, to again celebrate the Guinness world record title of the city for “longest barbecue”.
“We will not set a new record as our latest longest barbecue edition of 2005 has yet to be confirmed by GWR. But the kalutan this year will be the grandest barbecue party,” he clarified.
Twelve concert stages have been constructed to genres of music that will suit the taste of the spectators. The stages will feature various popular bands which include: Francis Magalona and Imago, stage 1: Pinoy Big Brother celebrity edition housemates Roxanne Barcelo, Aleck Bovick and Gretchen Malalad, stage 2: Brownman Revival, hemp republic and Raggae Mistress, stage 3: Moonstarr 88, stage 5: Hale band, stage 6: Francyssjenn theater and arts group, stage 11 and 12.
“This year’s ‘kalutan’ focuses more on having great fun by enjoying varied music and feasting on a huge buffet of grilled succulent dagupan bangus,” event chairman Alex Siapno said.
To make the longest barbecue event more stimulating, Gilon! Gilon dancers performing on each of the 12 concert stages, will sway to the Gilon beat and entertain spectators before charcoal will be burned on the grills.
Two major Bangus Festival events – Gilon! Gilon ed Dalan (streetdancing) and Bangus ed Karosa were staged for the first time simultaneously yesterday(Saturday).
Bangus Festival 2006 officially kicked off last April 21 with the Bangus Fest Caravan participated in by over 400 vehicles and another 400 motorcycles which obtained a warm welcome from the residents of Mangaldan, San Fabian, Manaoag and San Jacinto.

Bangus Fest Amazing Race – Team 4 (Allan Alfonso, Elder Etang, Vivian Marquez and Princess Bialan), champion; Team 1 (Bernard Caesar Oviedo, Reynald Villacorta, Myra Oviedo and Lilibeth Ann Cardozo), 1st runner up; Team 3 (Almer Domingo, Chuck Montoya, Gemma Ginez and Mary ann Domingo), 2nd runner up; Team 2 (Nomer Sumagpao, Rolando Matalao, Ronavera Villa Orito and Orliza Sobierra), 3rd runner up. Winners received cash prizes, trophies and medals.

Dagupan’s Best: Marcela Barrozo, best tapa; Celia Guiao, best tocino; Lourdes Embornal, best longganisa; Belinda Natividad, best processed fish; Rowena Bancod, best sweets; and Soledad “Ising” dela Cruz, best fruits.
