LINGAYEN–The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) is set to investigate a reported text scam that already victimized a number of Sangguniang Kabataan chairmen in western Pangasinan.

This was after SK Provincial Federation Chairman John Christopher Arcinue revealed that several municipal SK chairmen fell victims to a uniform text message from still unidentified senders informing them about a supposed seminar organized by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

However, the text message reportedly asked the SK chairmen to pay the required seminar fee and remit this to the sender through the Smart Padala. He said several obliged thinking it was an official notice for an official function.

Arcinue said about P45,000 was lost to the scammer as seminar fees.

Among the victimized SK officials were the SK president and his members from Agno, P25,000; Bolinao, P10,000; Bani, P4,400; and  Alaminos, P8,000.

Arcinue said he already warned other SK presidents in the province about the text scam that already victimized a number of SK municipal and federations and to immediately report receipt of the scam text to the police.

He said the scam would have been exposed earlier if the recipients of the text had sought a confirmation from him.

The DILG denied it has scheduled any seminar.

It was learned that it was the first time that SK members in Pangasinan received a text scam.
